The Bansko winter ski season starts Friday 17th December 2021. The official opening is Saturday 18th December which comes with a one day only special full day pass of just 20 lv. Children 5 lv and under 7 year old just 1 lv. From 28th December an adult full day lift pass will be 79 lv.

With over 2 metres of snow having fallen on the highest areas and much of the mountain with 60cm+ and the town in snow, this is the best start to the season we can remember. Here’s our latest report from Sunday:

Temperatures will fall well below zero all this week, enabling snow making machines to build an even better base of snow for the ski road back down to the town. But wrap up warm.

The prices rises have been less than feared; with an adult day pass up 12% (7 lv) to 79 lv from 70 lv last season.

With so much snow falling there has been a dramatic increase in bookings for Bansko. For this weekend, we’re expecting many visitors especially from Greece and Sofia. For Christmas and New Year many restaurants are seeing a big increase in reservations as the numbers are swelled by Romanians, and others, keen on travelling to Bansko.

With visitors who are looking to fly to Bulgaria, there are testing regulations but bookings these days are reflecting the confidence that these are not an impediment for many. The vast majority of people in Europe could not go anywhere to ski last season. And many are making the choice to come this season.

There are extra risks in these times. For example, travel rules can suddenly change, the resort could be forced to close or the PCR or rapid flow tests travellers require before returning back to their country delivers a shock positive result. Those people will be forced to stay in Bansko and quarantine, all at their own expense.

With these enhanced risks it makes it more advisable to book just the flights and then rely on Bansko Blog’s booking service for private transfers, ski hire and lessons. All of these are 100% refundable should you not be able to travel – for whatever reason.

And if you can’t wait until Friday for Bansko to open, then nearby above Dobrinishte, the Bezbog lift is already open and offering up fine conditions. A retro lift experience can be forgiven for the conditions to be experienced there right now.
