Planning a ski trip is easy. Planning lessons for a group of beginners, improving skiers and first-time snowboarders is where the questions begin.
We recently helped a customer work through exactly that: three beginner snowboarders, skiers at different stages, equipment hire, transfers, lift passes and the practical matter of still meeting up for lunch. Their questions are common, so here is a straightforward guide to booking the right lessons for your group in Bansko.
Should we book private lessons, a private group or open group lessons?
For three beginner snowboarders, an open group lesson is often the best-value starting point. At quieter times, snowboard groups can be small, which keeps the experience personal while keeping costs down.
If you would rather the three of you stay together, a private group is a good alternative. The best choice comes down to whether you prefer the lower cost of a small group or the flexibility of learning only with your own friends.
How many lessons do beginners need?
There is no identical answer for every person. Fitness, confidence and how quickly someone picks things up all matter. For most beginners, we recommend two hours each morning. It is enough time to learn properly, then practise independently without becoming exhausted.
Your instructor can suggest what to work on after the lesson. Skiing and snowboarding use muscles that many people do not normally use, so this rhythm usually gives the best balance. Very fit guests who want to progress faster may prefer four hours a day, but most first-timers feel the effort after a few hours.
What time do lessons run?
Group lessons start at 11:00. This works particularly well for snowboarders because the snow has had time to soften a little. Afternoon lessons run from 14:00 to 16:00.
Can skiers and snowboarders learn at the same time and place?
Yes. All lessons start and finish at Banderishka Poliana, so skiers and snowboarders can head out separately and meet again after their morning lessons for lunch. It is a simple arrangement for groups with mixed interests and abilities.
Can people with different levels be in the same group?
Normally, we split groups by level. A complete beginner should not be in the same lesson as someone who can already ski confidently. When the gap is too wide, the stronger skier spends too much time waiting and gets less from the session.
The good news is that groups can change after a day or two. If someone learns faster than expected, they can move to another group that suits their progress better.
Can a snowboarder switch to skis during the week?
Yes. They can switch and join a beginner ski group. Before making that decision, it is worth remembering that snowboarding can feel tough in the first few days. For many people, it starts to click around day three or four, and that is often when it becomes much more fun.
How do we book lessons, equipment and transfers?
Use book.banskoblog.com to choose your lessons and full equipment hire; the exact price appears straight away. Sofia airport transfers can be booked there at the same time.
Lift passes are easy to buy in Bansko at the gondola cash desks or the machines opposite them. A sensible approach is to start with a three-day pass, then add more days later through the Bansko Blog app or at skipoint.info.
What happens if our plans change?
If you cancel more than seven days before your first hire day, the 20% deposit is refunded less a €10 administration fee. After that, lesson insurance can provide cover if selected during booking. There is also separate equipment insurance for theft and damage. We recommend taking both options.
All lessons and equipment hire are provided by our partners at Skimania. If your group is not quite sure what combination to choose, start with the booking tool and build the trip around your actual dates, abilities and priorities.
