The FIS Ski World Cup Alpine Woman: 25th to 26th January 2020
The FIS Ski World Cup Alpine Woman is 25th to 26th January 2020 in Bansko. These events are always good fun to watch with the Downhill on the 25th January and the Giant Slalom on the 26th January 2020. However there is one thing that always causes me to dampen my enthusiasm — closed runs. It takes a week to prepare a World Cup course and that means you can expect the Tomba to be closed from around the 19th January 2020.
At least one red run will also be closed as a practice piste for the World Cup athletes. Details awaited.
Overall there are those that say World Cup events are good for Bansko in general. I always have a good time and get to meet some of the people involved with the athletes. My main issue is that Bansko World Cup events are usually held when there are many visitors here. For example, 25th and 26th January 2020 coincide with the Turkish school holidays and the slopes are usually busy then.
Along with a top level international recognition at the World Ski Awards in Kitzbühel for a few years in a row now, Bansko has established itself as a preferred location for top international winter sports events and I believe that the resort should be proud of this fact.
Interesting fact: Since the 2007/08 season Bansko has already hosted 6 events (3 – Women and 3 – Men) in different ski disciplines from the FIS World Cup calendar, as well as two FIS World Cup snowboard events.
