The Melnik, Rozhen and Rupite Tour
Melnik is the smallest town in Bulgaria, its population is about 250 inhabitants. Located in the southwestern part of our country, near theGreek border, and is between the hills of Pirin and Belasitsa.
The city is surrounded by magnificent and impressive earth pyramids. It is declared a cultural and historical reserve and a city-museum. The area is inhabited by the Thracian tribe Medi, of which is the great ruler of the Roman slaves Spartak.
The Rozhen Monastery is situated 5 km away from Melnik in the lower parts of Pirin, with exceptional views of the peaks of Pirin and Belasitsa, as well as the popular Melnik Pyramid hills formed by erosion of clay soil. The monastery is the largest abbey in the Pirin region and second largest after the Rila in Bulgaria.
Rupite is located next to the mountain village of the same name at the foot of a small hill. In this area stands a temple-monument; Saint Petka Bulgarska; built with the funds of Baba Vanga in the early 1990’s. She is a famous Bulgarian fortune-teller and, according to her, the place gives energy and strength to many people. A curative mineral water, whose natural temperature is 75 ° C, springs from the ground. The air is pure, the nature is beautiful in all seasons.
The Melnik, Rozhen and Rupite Tour makes for a nice change from Bansko and is easily accessible.
