Oscar Wine Bar & Gastro: For Wine Lovers and Gastronauts
Oscar wine bar and Gastro, os 10 Pirin street, is the new kid on the block in the Bansko restaurant scene. So much so I think this is a new category of restaurant. A proper wine bar with proper refined cooking.
There were many interesting wines by the glass to choose from, Most were from small producers; so this make this probably one of only a few restaurants in Bansko I can recommend for fellow wine lovers.
There ‘s plenty of opportunity to try modern broad leaved Melnik variety, red Mavrud and white Misket here. Maryan, one of the most reliable producers of quality Bulgarian wine are here.
All the wine prices (and food prices) are very fair indeed. Actually a bit of a bargain.
We started with a glass of prosecco — not the harshness of so many proseccos but a smooth buttery but clean mouthful, with some gently bubbles. This is Deyan Toykov’s second wine bar location in Bansko and there’s a terrific looking summer garden round the back. I can’t wait to catch the afternoon sun rays in the garden once we get to March and all the way through to Autumn.
But this time I’ve had the opportunity of trying the food from the delightful Argentianian couple who cook imaginative dishes and with the genuine passion of owner and manager, Deyan. My last visit I had the local filet of trout.
Quite unusually for Bansko, the filet of trout was cooked just right; not overcooked that is so common with fish.
Whilst we were more Ethan full after the started and mains, we could not leave without trying the dessert recomended by Deyan: the cheesecake. Again not the usual thing – worth depth more flavour. Will order again.
Will be back for the third time, not least because Deyan has passion, expertise and flair for what he is doing. I wish him huge success.
