First Day Of The Ski Season: WONDERFUL!!

Yesterday I took my time. A little nervous but excited at the prospect of the first day of the 2018|19 ski season. I strolled to our ski hire and lesson partners, Skimania, met some friends and less than 50 metres to the gondola lift.

No-one, except the lift operators, were around. 35 leva for a lift pass seemed like more should be. But hey, I was not complining.

Maybe it was because this opening was only announced Sunday evening; or that it was a Monday — but  even I was surprised there were so few people. But I was even more surprised Ulen had worked so hard to get two runs open.

Stepping into the bindings for the first time since April felt good. Kolata 6 person lift I was all alone. As I attempted to record my first moments of the season on Facebook live I was happy to be there. Alone, away from the computer, fresh air and blazing sunshine. The crunch of corduroy snow.

Time for video for facebook. Forgetting to turn off selfie cam , facebook mirror images live video. Strangely quite nice.

Time for off;  good times are back. On the snow — so much earlier than I thought. The video and the pictures here can’t do justice to the good feelings of 3rd December 2018.

Friends and regulars

A leisurely happy chocolate with some folks who said hello. A discussion on the season ahead and then back down, in the gondola, for a meeting with the Kempinski where eI learnt about their new all day menu being served in the upper floor. And their new traditional English tea. Real clotted cream too.

So much innovation and hope for the season ahead.

Snow forecast

Lots more snow arrives from Sunday 9th December. Temperature will fall. By  the 15th December official season opening celebrations we will see more lifts open.  Support my work by booking your discounted transfer, ski hire, private and group lessons by clicking on the image below.
