Restaurant Review: Swiss Fondue at Lucky Bansko Hotel
The new Fondue restaurant in Bansko’s Lucky Bansko Hotel is a welcome addition to Bansko’s restaurant scene. Here’s why I can recommend you try it.
As you enter the hotel, the lobby design feels light and contemporary and the new fondue restaurant has had the designer’s touch too. It’s warm, comfortable and has that solid Swiss alpine feel about it.
I noticed some wonderful attention to detail in the furnishings. Our server demonstrated the operation of a smart remote control table ventilation and light fixture is striking and, I think, rather cool. I love a gadget so this was a good start.
A salad bar was wheeled round and the chance to build one’s own salad is something I really like. A little olive, chillies, parmesan, rocket and tomato with a mixed French and mustard dressing was just right to start off.
We went for the classic fondue and a steak. They both continues cooking at the table but there’s a feeling of confidence when looking at the open restaurant. A good wine is required for fondue, and steak, so a robust chardonnay and sauvignon blanc blend from Domain Boyar worked well. The oak could cut through the cheese and even help up well to the meat too.
The pickled vegetables were the perfect accompaniment to both the fondue and the meat came with two large roost potatoes.
Unlike some fondue’s I’ve had in the Alps, this one did not feel to heavy and surprisingly we found room to share the surprise dessert. Meringue, white chocolate dark chocolate and raspberry ensured we left with a smile.
Little to fault here. I would like to have seen some horseradish and some premium mustards to go with the steak — but these are very minor quibbles on what turned out to be a Bansko food experience that I’ll be back for more. Service was professional and attentive — but without being intrusive.
Full Disclosure: Fondue restaurant and Lucky Bansko are sponsors of Bansko Blog. Whilst I never recommend anything I do not enjoy please bear this in mind when reading this review.
You’ll see from their website that Chef Abdi graduated from the “European Academy for Training and Development” and his career includes many reputable restaurants in Bulgaria and Greece. Italian and Mediterranean cuisine has been his passion for more that ten years. I checked other online reviews and in the short space they have been open, the review are very positive. Well done to restaurant team and I look forward to returning again soon.
