How Good Can A “Bad” Powder Day Be?
This was my thought as I approached the top of the gondola lift this morning. It felt like everyone had given up the idea of skiing. Grey overcast and some light rain in town. And still there was rain at the top of the gondola lift. So straight up Bunderitsa 1 and 2 chair lifts to the top with Freddie.
But before this fine moment of fresh pow I allowed my mind to be cast back a few days. It was here I had predicted two days of fresh snow in my last blog post. But sometimes I lack the courage of my convictions.
Some local Bansko tell me their weather predictions that are either the result of using a simple weather app on their phone or, although probably both, a Bulgarian negative mindset. Whatever time and time again I find there is often a surprising lack of local mountain weather knowledge.
Well that’s enough of my weather generalisations. The main thing was that the snow fell and with slightly warmer air made possibly the finest piste conditions this season.
Easter skiing is on
The sky is clearing as I type this and the nights will start to be a lot cooler. This will help preserve the snow. There will be some bare patches emerging. Only a little more snow as far as I can see on Sunday. Next big snow fall looking like Wednesday 12th April afternoon through to the evening. This will ensure great conditions till the end of the season.
Just like last season, I expect the piste grooming team here to patch things up every evening for the next day.
So another bad fresh powder day turned out great. It’s super quiet and great fun. April is the new March for me as my work load decreases and I can enjoy the mountain with friends.
Today I managed time for lunch at the VIP rom with a banskoblog.com client: Friedel De Beer. She was kind enough to give her view of Bansko as it was her first trip. She came by herself learning to ski with a toddler. Video to follow here soon.
Thank you for reading and watching.
