New Year’s Eve: What To Do & Where To Party

Jack's House: a good place to party in Bansko

The Bansko temperature dropped; but the snow did not arrive actually in Bansko on Thursday. It felt like it should have snowed here. It even tumbled from the sky, glistening in all its white glory, just a few kilometres across the valley.

But it hardly fell here in Bansko. Borovets did quite well with the fresh dump. It is located on the North side of the splendid Rila mountain range. That’s the one that we look at across the valley every day. See in countless pictures I take from from the slopes of Bansko.

The amazing thing is that we are all fine for good skiing here in Bansko. An astonishing amount of snow has been made artificially with the snow canon. 70% of the pistes are open now.

The Plateau has no cannon — so that’s n0t skiable. But the snow road, Chalin valog (see my Facebook LIVE video above), pistes 10 and 5 and most other pistes are skiing very well. Yesterday morning though it was a little icy in parts, but it improved as the day went on. All in all, everyone was having fun including yesterday’s snow reports Olivia and Jack.

I admit it — I was so cold — it was an eye watering -16 C at the top of Shiligarnika lift. But then, the next best thing is to go and party hard.

New Year’s Eve Menus

Everyone has their own routine for New Year in Bansko. Around 11:30 the atmosphere in the main town square gets going and that is a good place to watch the fireworks. But if you’re finishing skiing early then why not have a ramble around the old town. The church in the church square is impressive.

But then there are the many venues. At the time of publishing, I know there are a few places left for New Year’s Eve dinner at:

  • The Irish Harp — 230 leva includes free premium beers, amazing Irish steaks. Spirits and drinks and The Lizard on guitar
  • Tomahawk SteakHouse, located in the Astera hotel… 69.90 leva per person includes the fabulous venison steak I reviewed here and fireworks. Dobrin is a fine host.
  • Smokey Mountain Bar and Grill: 65 leva per person — better than ever for all things ribs, burgers and pulled pork.
  • The Jagermeister VIP bar, located at The Passage, looks interesting for New Year’s Eve as well
  • Other ideas include that may have availability still include Queen’s Pub and Euphoria.

After midnight

It’s now time to head out to the Passage for Jagermeister House or why not try Amigos for my favourite pub rock band in the world, Step By Step. The there’s Jack’s House, Oxygen, Flash and The Club at the Church square.

Eli and Donny due at Sing Sing, Kempinski

Or maybe sneak into the Kempinski to see Eli and Donny at the Sing Sing piano bar. Check out my fun podcast with these two here:

I wish you a great evening. Catch me in the morning for a live broadcast from the slopes of Bansko.
