Film Fest in BanskoThe Bansko Mountain Film Fest runs from 23rd to 27th November 2016. Once again, I’ll be doing my best to go see as many of the 120 films showing as I can. In particular, as a paraglider pilot, I am set to meet the guest Red Bull pilot, Paul Gushlbauer. Paul was born in Austria and is an accomplished climber and skier too.

His long list of acro flying in impressive and I’m sure he must have worked alongside another Red Bull pilot Veso Ovcharov with whom I interviewed earlier this year, click play below:

I am giving Paul’s film a special mention because his achievements hold a very special interest to me. But there are many great films all with mountains, from climbing, skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking and more.

I will add that my best times are in the mountains. Bulgaria has five mountain ranges which I urge you to explore. Here in Bansko we have the alpine like Pirin range but also the other mountain ranges are spectacular from the Rila (for the Seven Rila Lakes), the Rhodopi, the Stara Planina and more. Pail has agreed to a podcast interview. This will appear here, in the Bansko Blog App, iTunes, SoundCloud, Stitcher and all podcast catchers.

As an observer his greatest achievement was coming 3rd place in the Red Bull X-Alps competition in 2013. This was the third time he took part in this incredible competition that is the traverse of the Alps and requires highly tuned glider skills combined with massive fitness. I look forward to hearing what he thinks have been his greatest moments.

Check out his film  on 26th November, 19:00h, Big Hall, Culture Center “N. Vapcarov”, Bansko. There are so many interesting films to see — even a diving one. I would say this year looks like the best film fest so far. 100% recommended.

Suspentes et cordes de violon au pakistan from Vertiges Prod on Vimeo.

Talking of flying there is a film about flying in Pakistan, the pilot is a violin player. This film “Suspentes et cordes de violin au Pakistan”, see the trailer above, has won a Coupe Icare award in 2015 amongst others and looks like a quirky take of vol bivouac flying in there insanely high mountains of Pakistan.
