A Road Trip from London to Bansko

Aug 31, 2016 No Comments by

Bansko is a fantastic ski destination to visit, especially with its gorgeous landscape and nice weather. Situated in the southwestern region of Bulgaria, at the foot of the Pirin Mountains, Bansko has so much to offer. There are several ways to get to Bansko, but going on a road trip from London will lead to one of the best holiday experiences you will ever have.

Getting Ready for the Trip

There are a number of things to prepare for the road trip to Bansko. For starters, you need to choose a route to reach the ski resort. The most recommended route is to cross France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, and into Bulgaria. The route is incredibly scenic, filled with gorgeous landscapes and smooth roads.

Live the dream. Ski and work in Bansko for a season

Alternatively, you can go through Greece, which means crossing through France and Italy before taking a ferry to Greece and into Bulgaria. This is the more convenient route of the two, but the mountain roads across Greece do pose a bit of a challenge.

You also need to prepare yourself for the trip. Make sure you have a valid, full UK driving license. Check this site out to find out more about how you can quickly pass your tests and get a full driving license before the grand tour. Having your car tested and insured is also a must.

One last thing to do is to get a green card for your car. Some say it is not a necessity, but you can never be too careful, especially on a trip this long. Getting a green card is also very easy to do; as long as your car is in good shape, you’ll be just fine.

The Grand Tour

The actual trip to Bulgaria should be very pleasant. You shouldn’t have much to worry about since you’ll be driving through some of the most well-maintained roads in Europe. There are plenty of petrol stations and restaurants too. Larger petrol stations accept credit cards and usually have cafés and rest areas on site.

Crossing the border is fairly easy. The two routes recommended earlier require you to cross through European countries, so border checks should be easy to deal with. If you take the alternative route through Serbia – which requires you to cross the Hungarian border into Serbia – this too, isn’t much of a hassle.

More Tips for the Trip

It is a long trip from London to Bulgaria, but it can be a very enjoyable adventure, especially if you’re traveling with friends or family. To make sure you have a blast along the way, here are a few tips to keep in mind:

Don’t hesitate to stop frequently. There is no point in driving when you’re tired since you won’t be able to enjoy the trip at all.

You can’t reach Bulgaria in one go. So you should always schedule overnight stops at some of the countries you pass through.

Have plenty of water and snacks in the car and make sure you always have your camera ready.

That’s it! Plan your trip and enjoy the great skiing experience here in Bansko. You will love every part of the adventure.
