Vihren and the gondola lift from the Kempinski

After a hot April and a wetter than normal May and early June, its all change for Bansko weather. From Thursday 16th June temperatures of 29 C — then up to 33 C on Friday and remaining hot until at least Friday 24th June.

These temperatures will make for some great hiking and of course the snow is still lying on the ground higher up — but most paths are now clear except for the peaks and more protected areas.

There will be a risk of thunderstorms on some days so be prepared and always checked for the overdevelopment of clouds and quickly descend from exposed ground. Take water, sunscreen, a smart phone battery charges and waterproof clothes. I always take a sandwich, nuts and snacks in case the hike takes longer than planned.

Summer is here and I welcome the heat. The rain these last few months has been more than I remember for many years and, although I am sure the heat is not for everyone, the sunny days ahead mean that summer has well and truly arrived.
