Snow Forecast. It’s Snowing Now!

The warm weather spell is, finally, coming to an end. It’s even snowing at 180 bar level as I type this, on Wednesday 2nd March. Some snow/rain during Thursday 3rd will turn to snow, I think a snow rather than rain in town on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th.

Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I’m finally predicting snow in TOWN. Snow falling from the heavens and landing in town is a joyous time. And it’s a nice present to Bulgarians, because it’s Independence Day — long holiday weekend from Thursday 3rd.

For clarity, Thursday 3rd March and Friday 4th are public holidays in Bulgaria. Here is the meteoblue forecast. I combine this with there in-app widget which I designed to help forecasting when snow will fall and at what height. For every 1,000 metres of height, the temperature drops approximately 8 degrees centigrade.

It’s a mind game. A flow state of happiness

As I mentioned in my last snow report from piste number 5, I have spoken to many visitors here in Bansko these last snow challenged weeks. Not one person has said they wish they has cancelled.

I think there are three reasons for this.

1. We all love a break from the usual routine we have to often endure in the office / place of work.

2. Bansko offers the best value for money in Europe, so you can party hard, enjoy après ski drinks and great food. That makes us all happier.

3. Being on the mountain and doing something we are absorbed in means we get into “flow state” — we are in the “Zone” and are in the “present”

The problem is the build up, talk of no snow, no fun, no skiing and snowboarding. The reality has, almost always, been better than perceptions.
