SUBWAY Sandwich Chain To Open In Bansko
SUBWAY is soon to open in Bansko in the Passage building, close to the gondola lift. This is the widely reported rumour Whist I generally do not report on things until full verification has happened or a venue has actually opened, I will make an exception in this case because so many people are asking. Subway are way more popular than I thought.
Subway is, in some respects, a sign of progress. It’s the first famous fast food outlet to open in Bansko. It was always going to happen that an international style “deli” for a sandwich would provide to be a likely business. So many of us need sustenance before hitting, during and after being on the mountain
Skiing and snowboarding is hungry work.
Out of all the big name take away places, SUBWAY is probably the best. It is certainly the largest food chain in the world with 44,444+ outlets in 111 countries. The formula is popular evidenced by a “me-too” lookalike Subway venue in Plovdiv, in the hip Kapana district. A very similar product and proving to be popular with Bulgarians, as well as tourists.
But here in Bansko, we’re getting the real deal.
In a situation like this I always look at wikipedia to find out more. On Subway the entry says… “Subway’s core product is the submarine sandwich (or “sub”). In addition to these, the chain also sells wraps, salad, and baked goods (including cookies, doughnuts, and muffins). While some menu items vary between countries and markets, Subway’s worldwide signature sub varieties include the following
- B.L.T
- Chicken Teriyaki
- Italian B.M.T.
- Meatball Marinara
- Roasted Chicken
- Steak & Cheese
- Subway Club
- Subway Melt
- Tuna
- Veggie Delite
Subway’s best-selling sandwich is the B.M.T., It contains pepperoni, salami, and ham. The name originally stood for Brooklyn Manhattan Transit, but now stands for “Bigger, Meatier, Tastier”.
So there you have it; Subway in Bansko. It could be much worse (think Mc D’s); but it also could be better. Le Retro in Bansko near the Church or Mark’s Guerrilla kitchen in Blagoevgrad are two examples where the sandwich offerings are tasty, innovative and fresh. Both do their best to make food with locally sourced ingredients.
