Quicker to get on the Bansko gondola lift from Sofia

Today, October 22, is a hugely significant day for all those travelling to Bansko. It’s just got a whole lot easier to get to Bansko from Sofia airport than ever before. The new 37.48 kilometre road, which cost 358.72 million Leva (€183.96 million) will reduce the Sofia airport to Bansko transfer time to just 2 hours and 5 minutes, at legal speeds outside rush hour.

The road from the airport to the ring road, through Mladost, is also complete so now, apart from a few small sections, the whole journey on the E79 is highway is comfortable, reliable and fast. Highway Technical Details

So this stretch of road is called Lot 2 Dupnitsa – Blagoevgrad “Struma”. The total length of the section is 37.48 km.

The official opening of Lot 2 Dupnitsa – Blagoevgrad of “Struma” highway was today October 22nd 2015. The total length of the section is 37.48 km. The project is co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union and the national budget through the Operational Programme “Transport
2007-2013”.

This completes the total 69 km of motorway sections in Lower Dikanya to Dupnitsa of 16.78 km and Dupnitsa to Blagoevgrad of 37.48 km and Sandanski to Kulata of 14.7 km.
The official opening ceremony of Lot 2 was attended by Chairman of the Board of the Agency “Road Infrastructure” Eng. Lazar Lazaro, members of the Board and others.

 

The Cost Of Building The Road

The value of the contract is over 358 722 000 leva. The total length of highway “Struma” – Daskalovo from the Greek border is 150 km. It is part of Corridor “Orient / East Mediterranean” connecting Vidin Tower.
