It’s snowing. Bansko ski season opening ceremony
It’s snowing. This evening; with the snow falling on Todorka, it’s a pleasure. It always feels like a long wait for the first proper snow to arrive here. But the Bansko ski season and the opening ceremony on Saturday 14th December is just around the corner.
UPDATE
The gondola lift will be open from 30th November. There is no information as to whether other ski lifts will be working. If there is more snow, there will be some nice early season skiing.
Prices
Adults: 28 lv
Students: 25 lv
Children: 20 lv
The opening ceremony; 14th December
Alberto Tomba, who is the three time Olympic Champion and two time world champion will kick off the ski season on the official opening on the 14th December. He will lead skiers down the piste that bears his name.
Alberto Tomba is just five days short of his 47th birthday on December 19th.
In addition to Alberto Tomba will be the only five-time winner of the Big Crystal Globe – Marc Girardelli, accompanied by Bulgaria’s number on skier, of all time Peter Popangelov.
Banskoski.com’s announcement goes on to say that “Frenchman Luc Alphand glorious, who opened the season at the foot of Pirin three years ago, has confirmed his participation and also becomes part of the family “Bansko”. He is a real phenomenon in sport, not just being the winner of world cup of 1997 in alpine skiing, but also the winner of the most prestigious var rally in the world the Dakar in 2006.”
Dig for a car
As in previous years, I will be, yet again I’m sure trying to find the keys to a new car in the snow in the race “Treasure Seekers”. There will also be a ski race, I’ll see if I can get a pro to get a genuinely impressive top speed on the Bansko App’s “My Stats” function.
The party atmosphere will be provided by DJ Rae.
Snow forecast
We are now seeing temperatures fall. The rain in town will turn to snow Monday and we should see on and off snow for three days. Watch out for a video snow report later in the week. There will be a full round up of the new bars, restaurants and places coming here, and in the App, coming here very soon. You’ll be notified by email if you subscribe by email.
Not booked your transfer yet. Help keep the info coming and the app getting better. Book here or if you just need transfers book on the Bansko Blog app (for Android and iOS Apple mobile devices).

Cant wait for the first visit of the season in January!
Beer n Snow – Bring it on…..
Hi Phil, Yes from green to white. I too wonder at the transformation of the landscape. Hope to welcome you as a full season resident soon. Beer n snow, I like it! Snow n wine too.
I’m there Jan the 4th, hows the weather usually in Jan, i’ve been to Bulgaria some 15 years ago boarding in borovets.
Hi Darren,
January is usually pretty good. Memory is a funny thing but it seems we often get snowfall around the 5th 6th January. Every year is different of course — just like anywhere else. There’s plenty of snow cannon to help boost cover. Bulgaria will feel different, but also the same as 15 years ago. Bansko very different of course.
Hello Lance. Do we have any news about the price for lifts season 2013-2014. I heared that maybe the resort reduce the lift price. As i saw on the website. The price is 28 lv for adults. This is just because we are on a pre season time? Can’t wait to come on 26th of December 😀
Hi Akakios, Yes, that’s ringt, the preseason start prices are always lower. However the main ski season lift passes prices are the same as last year. Can’t wait for the snow to fall… see video. Thank you for commenting here.
Hi. I hope the snow comes very soon in time for Christmas x
