The Road To Nowhere 2013

The Road to Nowhere Mountain biking event in Bansko is back. Pre race registration is on Friday 26th July. MTB race days are Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July.

More info at bansko-mtb.com. The wearing of a helmet is compulsory.

James Hughes, the organiser, tells me that he expects a record turnout of mountain bikers for the event which is now in its fifth year. For 2013, the race starts and will be hosted at the convenient location of Bansko Royal Towers (“BRT”). Located just across the river from the gondola lift.

BRT is a hotel with a swimming pool, garden, restaurant. They have a special 100 lv for two night accommodation deal for this event or 135 lv the three night deal. Includes breakfast. Price are based on a one bedroom apartment, not per person. A bargain!

The race showcases some fine mountain tracks and is yet another step in helping establish the Bansko region as a valid mtb destination.

On a personal note, my shoulder inpingement problem set me back in early April. The condition severely restricts arm movement and sadly prevents me from taking part.

But I have good news.

Now, after fourteen weeks and after mri scan, physio and steroid injection, I’m getting a little more movement back to my left, and right arms. The long road to mtb fitness is not here yet, but hope it will be is.

Tip of the day

WARNING: Weather changes quickly in the mountains. Be prepared. If clouds in the mountains are building up early in the day, then thunderstorms later on are likely. When overdevelopment (building clouds) happens, they will darken. Be very quick to get down from high points. If there is an anvil shape to the cloud, then this is a thunder cloud. Known as a cumulonimbus cloud. Expect strong winds from a gust front followed by hail, thunder, lightening and torrential rain.

The Good Beer Show is on 3rd and 10th August 2013. Like the MTB race Bansko Blog / Bansko App are proud sponosors of these events.
