A day of romance or for drinking wine in Bulgaria ?
In Bulgaria, this holiday became popular only in the last decade and there is still much controversy about it. Many Bulgarians argue this holiday has nothing to do with their religion, and boycott it.
This is because, on the same date, the local religious calendar celebrates another occasion, Saint Trifon Zarezan. Or, as it’s more commonly known – the saint of vineyards and wine.
Interesting factoid.
There’s no harm in combining both occasions, when in Bulgaria. After all, what is love and romance without good wine?
A day of giving
There’s no getting away from the St Valentine’s marketing hype, even in Bansko. Some shops are full of items that are meant to be suitable for this day. Pirin street has several shops selling sexy lingerie. The sex shops have such items too.
If that red heart-shaped Chi-tatstic thingy is not your desire, then how about investing in a Valentine’s experience?
