The new plato chair lift, we are informed, will be open on Saturday. All good news. Over 30cm of snow cover on higher slopes and temperature of -8ºC on plato, around ZeroºC in town. Clear skies and bright sunshine. Most ski runs now open.

Ski Joy And Milka

Last year’s special edition, “SkiJoy” bar was, mmmm… a joy to eat. I’m keep looking out for it, or its replacement. When you are in Bansko you’ll see Milka promoted everywhere . If you suddenly find it difficult to resist doing a “funny” pose for your mates with the camera whilst “embracing” the life size milka cow in the gondola station entrance — then don’t worry we’ve all done it. So thinking there must be a link here to something of deep interest, I undertook extensive research and, yes, there is a huge Milka chocolate factory in Svoge. A quite pleasant town around one hour north of Sofia.

The Super G, Slalom and Downhill World Cup racing is an exceptionally serious sport… but I have to admit that it was Lindsey Vonn that made me take a closer interest in the women’s world cup last time around here in Bansko. I then asked a friend, who prefers to remain anonymous, about who sponsors these competitors. He said check out Milka’s prime sponsored skier, Tina Maze from Slovenia. She won the silver medal in Vancouver’s Winter Olympics in 2010. Tina is a worthy second place podium position in every respect. And I am not alone in agreeing – someone in the PR department at Nestle agrees — she is now the face of Milka chocolate. After an hours’ skiing on a cold morning, I reckon that there are few things in life that are better than warming up with a hot chocolate, and a fresh Milka bar. Relaxing on the piste; people watching, studying our fellow skiiers and boarders for their their fashion sense, are all part of a the mix for a top Bansko ski trip.
