Bonfire Night For Zdravets School For Handicapped Children
It’s Bansko bonfire night tonight and, as a English northerner, Bonfire night evokes memories of the most exciting day of the year, maybe bar Chritmas Day.
But tonight I am especially looking forward to celebrating Guy Fawkes Night. Beacause attending this event (20 bgn per head) will help contribute to an incredibly important local charity, The Zdravets School For Handicapped Children in Bansko. Natasha and Douglas Ross from property management group BAMRO are the organisers and coordinators of the event. held up at their premises in Dobrinishte. One of this site’s sponsors, resellmyapartment.com, have created a banner and I’ve placed this on this blog linking to their page with the details on how to give (and it’s not just about cash)
Â
The school is home to 25 moderate to severally handicapped children in Bansko caring for children with congenial birth defects and handicaps to those handicapped or disabled by accident. As you may understand the required care and needs of these special children is an ongoing process that it lifelong in nature.
We are asking for the following types of donations for the children or to help purchase required items deemed necessary for the care and improved life of the children…
- Monetary donations (please see below)
- Children’s Clothing from toddler to teenage in size. Second-hand or new will be accepted.
- Children’s Toys and play items, plastic cars, stuff animals, etc. Please ensure that the toys do not separate into small pieces.
- Children’s movies in DVD format.
- Any unused, older model video game equipment and game cartridges.
- Blankets, linen, etc.
- Your time and your children’s time, however brief, to visit the school on your next visit to Bansko and to come and interact with the children there. This is perhaps the most welcome and enjoyed gift you and your children could possibly give to these special children.
Most Special Need At This Time
The most critical need at this time is for a single child with over 90% disability and who because of his condition requires a special wheel chair in order to be mobile. The Zdravets School has researched his requirements and the available equipment in the EU market place and has selected this ‘Serena’ model chair from Dietz Reha (www.dietz-reha.de) of which the price is approximately 1,200 euros.
