Am arriving to Sofia for 2 nites then off to Pomorie for 5 nites. I read somewhere this is where to check and ask about info on taxis that are rip offs and any other information would be great. We will be there in December and staying at the Grand hotel Pomorie . Any advice you offer would be great
Hi Clarissa,
Check out taxi info here: http://banskoblog.com/sofia-transfers/ . At theairport be very careful. It is full of rip off taxis. Look for the price (0.49 lev per kilometres, 0.70lev per kilometre between 10:00pmand 06:00am) in the window.
OK supertrans are honest. Check the tel number on the car is 973 21 21. You can call them. Just BGN 0.50 call out. BGN 0.18 wait rate.
Make sure it is OK supertrans and NOT a copy OK. Even I fell for this two weeks ago in Sofia when in a rush.
Then when you get in, check that the metre is turned ON. More and more people are getting ripped off. 120 euros to the centre of town has been reported to me! You can always get a transfer company to take you into town – see trafer page. A nice option if there are many of you with luggage.
Most Sofia taxis run on proppane or methane and therefore have large gas bottles in the boot (trunk). This severely restricts room for luggage.
Hope you have a pleasant trip, Lance
How much is the average for a taxi to charge to get to Bansko in total? Or how many KM is it from Sofia to Bansko center?
Hi Patrick, please go to transfers artcile for all the info. There are gular buses from 14 leva each way from Sofia bus stations or private transfers and private shuttle buses from Sofia airport. It's about 180km in total.

Hei Lance..

Hi Jeppe,
No fun park yet. More snow required. But when there is it will be there. Have a great trip.

I am in Bansko in March will I save much for prebooking ski equipment , lessons, pass etc or am I best to have a look round when I get there as I am on a tight budget.
Hi Lorraine,
You can save on all three by booking up before going. Typically the rental shops are busy and you'll be keen to get up the mountain. With prebooked beginners ski packs available on BanskoBlog for around 245 euros you'll not only be getting a better deal than in the resort but you'll be helping me improve the information and deals on this site

Hi Lance, I am planning to visit Bansko in Feb. I am going to drive there from Thessaloniki and I would like to know if snow chains are needed.
Hi George,
You should carry chains just in case. Bulgarians drive with winter tyres. That said usually the road is kept clear of snow, but weather is weather and being prepared is by far the best way. Check forecast before setting off.
Thanks for your question
Lance
Hi Lorraine,
Subscribe and you'll receive a prepay hire/tuition quote, often around 40% saving from in resort prices. The hire places I deal with like this way as they can plan ahead. Perfect for those on a budget.

I have booked Pamparova for christmas new year 2010/11. With the snow conditions being poor at the moment I am wonering whether to swap the holiday to Bansko. Could you advise me if I have better chance of skiing in Bansko and if it would be worth the extra cost. Would be very grateful of advise. I have until the 12th dec to decide.
Dear Kathryn,
The wonderful Rhodopi mountains, in which Pamporovo sits, are about to get the covered in the white stuff. So I would stay in Pamporovo and come and try Bansko another time.
Christmas is still two weeks away, so you can never be sure and no one an predict accurately. Not even me
…But with cold temperatures for the foreseeable future, its looking good. I would add that Bansko is more snow sure than other Bulgairna ski resorts due to snow cannons.
Enjoy your trip and try and relax. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment… anyone else got any other views on whether Kathryn should switch to Bansko?
can you help! we have a one year old will be two next ski season we need to find a creche or childcare for him when we ski, would be grateful for any advise you can offer thanks
As an owner of property in Pirin Park View, Bansko, my mother and I would like to set up a forum for all owners of the complex to facilitate communication of shared interests. Are any of you out there reading this ? If so, please do not hesitate to email me asap at lisaabbate@hotmail.co.uk – we are based in London, but the internet makes international communication possible!
Where can I buy bikes in bansko or nearby?
Hi Janice, go to mtb-bg.com for lots of info on this. They have listing of most of the dealers. You will see a lot of Drag brand that are popular and made in Bulgaria — as are a number of other brands (including the British Raleigh brand)
Hello Lance,
I have just signed up to your Blog and, after looking at it several times, i think it is very informative and will be useful. My wife and I hope to visit our apartment for the first time in March/April 2012. We cannot get there earlier due to holiday restrictions. The crucial question is, what is the snow going to be like at this time of year 31/3/12-7.4.12? Also, Ulen have the lift system operating? I cannot expect you to predict the weather but , perhaps you could go on previous seasons.
We are intending to let our small studio apartment to friends and colleagues at cost price, recognising that the Bansko apartment market is more than saturated. My daughter has built a web site for people to access and I feel that your blog would be a good link to put on this. have you any objections to this?
Thanks for your information.
Ian
Hello Ian, Thank you for your kind comments.
Most years the snow has been good at this time. Last year was not so good. Weather cycles are almost impossible for us to imagine in just one lifetime of skiing and I would say that weather does not conform to patterns — as much as we want predictability. What I will say is that the late season often brings a good heavy snowfall and along with some brilliant simmering sunshine glistening like stars on the snow this will surely be a boost to body and soul.
Everyone is welcome to link to the banskoblog and if a logo is required then please either copy ones on this site or I can send you one. See you in April. Lance
Nice Reply!! Sounds Good!!
Hi Lance,
Myself and a group of friends are planning on heading over at the end of February/first week of March 2012. Do you know of any events on in Bansko around those times? I know the World Cup is on in February, but I think we'll just miss it. I just want to know what the general life will be like, and how packed the slopes will possibly be!
Thanks,
Michael
Hi Michael,
Bansko life will be in full ski season swing. Quieter for sure, but stay tuned for special events! See you then. Thanks for visiting BBlog
